The island that inspired Whisky Galore was where Bonnie Prince Charlie first set foot on Scottish soil at the start of the Jacobite rising. The Isle of Eriskay is a majestic island, defined by its natural beauty, it’s incredibly rich heritage and culture and most of all its community. Affectionately known as ‘Eilean na h-Òige’ (the island of youth), Eriskay was populated after the Highland Clearances and has a relatively short history of inhabitants, but a history that could rival any of its neighbours.
Follow us online as we document the progress of 'Ionad Eilean na h-Òige', the redevelopment of the old Eriskay school. This historic building (c1870) is being regenerated into a heritage centre and community hub giving us a base to collect & preserve the rich heritage and culture of the Isle of Eriskay for the benefit of the community and visitors to the island.
