The island that inspired Whisky Galore, was where Bonnie Prince Charlie first set foot on Scottish soil at the start of the Jacobite rising and, the island which inspired Fr. Allan MacDonald to gather local folklore, stories, and write his well known poetry.

The Isle of Eriskay is a majestic island, defined by its natural beauty, it’s incredibly rich heritage and culture, and most of all its community.  Affectionately known as ‘Eilean na h-Òige’ (the island of youth), Eriskay was populated after the Highland Clearances, but for a small island it has a vast history that could rival any of its neighbours.

Follow us online as we document the progress of 'Ionad Eilean na h-Òige', the redevelopment of the old Eriskay school.  This historic building (c1870) is being regenerated into a heritage centre and community hub giving us a base to collect & preserve the rich heritage and culture of the Isle of Eriskay for the benefit of the community and visitors to the island.
