Rosinish, a rocky area on the north-east coast of Eriskay, is known for its rugged beauty and historical significance. The area features a deserted township, a poignant reminder of the island's past, where people who were cleared from South Uist sought refuge.
They sheltered in bothies made from peat turf. Some were reluctant to make more permanent homes for fear of further evictions. It was here in 1941 that the S.S. Politician famously ran aground, sparking the legendary tales of "Whisky Galore."
Today, Rosinish offers stunning coastal views and a connection to the island's rich history, inviting visitors to explore its beautiful landscape and heritage.
