The Prince's Flower is a striking pink wildflower that grows naturally on Coilleag a ’Phrionnsa (Prince Charlie’s Bay) in Eriskay. It is said to have been brought to the island by Bonnie Prince Charlie when he first stepped foot on Scottish soil on a beach on Eriskay on 23rd July 1745 at the start of the Jacobite Rebellion. The seeds which spilled from his pocket, taking root only in this spot on the island, becoming a symbol of Eriskay's unique connection to Scottish history.
Blooming in mid-summer, the Prince's Flower adds vibrant colour to the island’s scenery, growing amongst the shelter of the muran grass above Prince Charlie’s Bay, or Traigh Leis as it’s known locally.
